Urinary Incontinence
Urinary incontinence is leakage of urine beyond your control. There are two main types of urinary incontinence:
Urge Incontinence: Leakage of urine with the urge to urinate or on the way to the bathroom
Stress incontinence: Leakage of urine with increased abdominal pressure like with coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, jumping, running, squatting, lifting.
Urinary incontinence can occur at any stage of life: Pregnancy, postpartum, post-surgery, postmenopause, or due to general weakness.
Urinary incontinence is COMMON but not NORMAL. With very few exceptions, the first line of treatment for urinary incontinence should be physical therapy. Is it most commonly due to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and is very treatable to muscular reeducation.
