Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the inside of the uterus develops outside of the uterus — typically in the abdominal and pelvic cavities. This tissue is commonly activated with menstrual cycles and can lead to abdominal scar tissue, painful menstrual cycles, pelvic and abdominal pain, difficulty getting pregnant, pain with bowel movements, and bladder dysfunction.
The goals of a pelvic health physical therapist involve:
Education on your diagnosis and general wellness
Manual therapy techniques such as myofascial release, desensitization, and visceral manipulation
Teaching physical and mental coping skills
Work as a positive member of your team of physicians and mental/physical health practitioners
We encourage you to take control of your wellness and learn all the you can about endometriosis. This is essential in your journey!
