Post-Surgical Recovery

One of my passions as a physical therapist is ensuring that my clients recover well from any abdominal, lumbar, or pelvic surgery. Surgical interventions are not only a trauma (sometimes a necessary one) on the body, but they also create scar tissue, adhesions, and changes to the motion of your organs that lead to changes in your functional movement.

It is vital to attend physical therapy if you have had one or even multiple surgical interventions. It is very possible to make positive changes to the mobility of your organs, muscles, and joints, even decades after a surgery!

Common surgical interventions that benefit for pre-hab or post-surgical physical therapy:

  • Prostatectomy

  • Hysterectomy

  • Keyhole (Laparoscopic) abdominal surgery

  • Surgical interventions for endometriosis

  • C-sections

  • Gallbladder removal

  • Appendectomy

  • Spinal fusions or discectomies

  • Labral repairs for the hips

  • Lap bands/Bariatric surgery

  • Fundoplication

  • Rotator cuff repair

  • Knee replacements

  • ACL repair

The goal of post-surgical recovery is to optimize your mobility and function with the goal of improving your current symptoms and preventing onset of more problems down the road.
