Postpartum Recovery

The postpartum period refers to the first year after delivering your little one, although the repercussions of your vaginal, VBAC, or C-section delivery can persist for several years.

Common postpartum challenges include:

  • Perineal or C-section scar pain

  • Difficulty returning to intercourse

  • Difficulty with breastfeeding and pain in the upper back with breastfeeding

  • Stress or urge urinary incontinence

  • New or continued low back, upper back, or pelvic girdle pain

  • Fecal incontinence

  • Neurological weakness or numbness due to intrapartum injury

  • Leg weakness or heaviness

  • Pelvic organ prolapse or varicosities

  • Difficulty with returning to strength or cardiovascular exercise

The goal of pelvic health physical therapy is to help you return to your optimal level of function. This includes self care, infant care, and returning to your normal exercise routines.
